MORE ABOUT MANDI

I’ve spent a lot of my life feeling invisible—I felt different, misunderstood, and like I wasn’t enough. Overwhelmed with the world's demands telling me who I should be and what I should do, I desperately tried to mold myself into the image I was told I needed to be. Yet, the more I tried, the more I stumbled.

I realize my experience isn’t unique. It’s difficult to live in a culture where advice and opinions are abundant. Learning to tune out the noise is a daily battle. However, for some, like me, the invisibility can become suffocating. I began to disappear a little more at a time—disconnected from a world I felt I didn’t fit into.

No matter how small I got, there was one place I could always find a reflection of my true self: in books. It wasn’t until my late twenties that I finally figured out how to bring that true self into the real world.

In 2016, I attended a personal development event and sat amongst hundreds of strangers in a large meeting hall. Shaking in my seat, I almost walked out a handful of times. But just as I was about to make a mad dash toward the exit for a final time, a panel of guests got on stage and began sharing personal stories. I quickly became transfixed as I listened to them speak about failures, trauma, triumphs, and breakthroughs. I can never explain exactly what happened that day, but something shifted in me. Sitting amongst people I didn’t know, tears streaming down my face, I was surrounded by people who made me feel connected, seen, and understood for the first time in my life. The vulnerability and honesty the speakers offered forever changed me. And it was then I realized if stories could transform me, they could also do that for others.

And so, a once-invisible little girl has grown into a woman who now seeks to inspire others to find their own voice and discover their purpose through the power of story.
