Finding Visibility in Your Business
It’s really easy to stay invisible in your business if you want to. You can hide behind your computer, phone, employees, task lists, and even your product or service. But here’s the thing— there is a very slim chance you will find the success you’re looking for, unless you’re willing to step out of the shadows. Take it from someone who has been there, and still struggles with this daily! I know that putting yourself out there is terrifying. But I also know, that not only will it challenge you to grow personally, it’s necessary if you want to level up your business.
Being the introvert that I am, and also having a personality type that makes up less than one percent of the population, trust me when I say that I have felt all those crazy, debilitating, and anxiety provoking feelings going on inside of you right now. Setting yourself up for the potential to be ridiculed, judged, or misunderstood… you’re thinking, “No thanks,” right? Here’s the thing, and I am going to be real honest with you. There are going to be naysayers out there. There are going to be people who, when you start sharing more of yourself with the world, are going to dislike what you have to say. But it’s okay! Because those are not your people.
The people who disagree with, or try and knock you down, are not the clients you want to work with. So let it go! Don’t let them bring you down. On the flip side of this, you will find that as you begin to open yourself up, you’re also going to start attracting people who will resonate with your message. You will begin finding clients who connect with your story, are intrigued with what have to say, and want to work with you because of exactly who you are.
Through the process of being vulnerable, and sharing your story, you’re going to learn so much about yourself along the way. You will discover some beautiful secrets about your desires, passions, and personality. You will begin to find confidence in being authentically yourself, and owing exactly who you were meant to be. And as you do, your business will change in a profound way. As you insert more of yourself into your business, it will blossom in unimaginable ways. You will find that your relationships with your clients will strengthen, you will begin working with the people you’re truly meant to serve, and the products/services you offer will become more clear. Stepping into vulnerability and visibility is the path towards business success.
If you’re struggling with how to begin finding visibility within your business, start small. Social media is actually a great place to begin. I encourage you to post a photo of yourself and describe a little bit about who you are. What do you love? What are your hobbies? What are some interesting facts about you? Give your clients a chance to see you. Don’t write what you think they want to hear, tell them about who you really are. I think you’'ll be amazed at the warm, encouraging reaction to your post. Your clients will sometimes connect to even the smallest thing, yet it can have a huge impact on their experience in working with you. Give it a try! I promise it’ll be worth it.
Now keep in mind, when I talk about being vulnerable that isn’t to say you should share the most intimate details or your darkest secrets with the world. Being vulnerable and stepping into visibility means allowing your clients to see the human side of you. It’s showing up authentically and finding connection through parts of your story that speak to the reason for doing the work you do.
